Kakwenza Rukirabashaija is a33 year old  Ugandan novelist, political activist, poet, journalist. He is known for writing courageous novels like; Banana Republic: Where Writing is Treasonous and the satirical ‘The Greedy Barbarian’, a novel that won him a prestigious price this year for courageous writing.

Kakwenza was arrested on the 28th Dec, 2021 from his home in Kisaasi by men in civilian attire as reported by the writer on his twitter and detained  thereafter -news that was later on confirmed by his lawyer.

The PEN -prize winner was arrested for reported social media posts in which he repeatedly abused the president of Uganda -Yoweri .K. Museveni and first son, also commander of land forces -Lt Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

He openly on twitter called the first son, ‘obese’.

After several disagreements with the writer’s arrest from different bodies in Uganda like numerous writers and poets and the diaspora, Kakweza at the Chief Magistrate Court in Makindye had his freedom.

The Chief Magistrate ordered for the unconditional release of Novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija and restricted any detention of the same on any account in regards to the matter.
