The nurses and midwives in Uganda have held strikes protesting low pay as way back as 2018. This 26th of May, 2022 – they protested over the same issues again.

Kawolo patients were left stranded as nurses and midwives lay down their tools.

As it is a trend in Uganda now, many health workers have laid down their tools due to low pay and poor working conditions.

“There is industrial action begining from tomorrow (26th May). We have rejected the letter from the Ministry of Public Service asking us to halt the planned industrial action” Justus Cherop Kiplangat UNMU president.

Mr. Justus Cherop says they are doing this because the government is undermining them.

In May 16th However, Mr Wilson Mukasa Muruli – Minister of Public Service appealed to the nurses to stop the strike.
