Police on the Gulu-Kampala highway.

One policeman has been confirmed dead at the Gulu-Kampala road check point while another is seriously injured. The attackers are said to have emerged from the bush and attacked the armed police officers.

Police men attached to the traffic police check point at Kiwumpa village on the Gulu-Kampala high way in Luweero District were attacked on duty by unknown thugs who are suspected to have wanted guns.

Mr Abusafu Kawuma, a farmer who witnessed the attack said, ” I was digging in my garden that is about 200 meters away from the police checkpoint when one of the female police officers came to me running. She had pulled off the police uniform and asked me to help her with the T-shirt that I was putting on. I quickly gave her the T-shirt before she disappeared.”

The deceased police man has been identified as Ronald Busingye attached to the police field unit in Luweero District while the other injured badly as Joseph Twinamasiko.

Other witnesses say that the thugs had set ablaze a semi-truck trailer that had packed at the police check point. The machete wielding thugs are said to have sped off from fear.
