Habitat for Humanity an NGO , working with local communities has constructed houses for the needy elderly in Kumi district. The houses were built in Garia and Kaderin parishes in Mukogoro sub county.

The houses were unveiled on Friday where at least 60 elderly people in Kumi District received modern houses; 3000 liter water harvesting tanks plus sanitary facilities.

“It was so hard to find grass for thatching my house, but now all that burden is history,”  Ms Nanzala, an elderly person who benefitted from the project said.

Christine Apolot, the District Woman MP for Kumi says that the district has more than 20.000 elders staying in dilapidated houses. The District Woman MP applauded the NGO for the great work.

Habitat for Humanity has been in Uganda for 40 years and aims at improving the standard of living of the elderly.
