On Monday, Uganda and Zimbabwe announced the launch of their first Nano satellites  into space in the bid to aid collection of data to monitor disasters, enhance mineral mapping and boost agriculture.

Zimbabwe’s plans to launch the satellite begun in 2018 shortly after president Emerson Mnagagwe resumed office after the over throw of president Mugabe through a military coup. The incumbent president then created the Zimbabwean National Geospatial and Space Agency(ZINGSA).

A rocket carrying tiny satellites; PearlAfricaSat-1(for Uganda) and ZIMSAT-1(for Zimbabwe) successfully launched from Virginia in the United States alongside Uganda’s first satellite as part of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

Zimbabwe has received controversial feedback in regard to the new developments. As some congratulate them on the achievement , others don’t agree as they look at the country’s frail economy  for which Zimbabwe has over the years blamed on western sanctions.

Critics instead blame the terrible inflation in the country on Zimbabwe’s mismanagement and corruption.
