The Netherlands team has maintained their record of not being beaten at world cup opening matches since 1938. At the first world cup to be held in Arabia, Netherlands kept their position when they beat Senegal 0:2 in the group stages.

Cody Gapko and Davy Klaassan goals gave Netherland victory against Senegal at the last minute lap at the Al Thumama Stadium. Ecuador also beat hosts Qatar 2:0 in the other group A match at the opening night of World Cup 2022.

After a beautiful cross from Frenkie de Jong, Gapko’s perfect timing earned Netherland their first goal against Senegal and Davy intensified the win with an injury time goal closing the game at 0:2.
