Hon. Okabe, the Serere Sub-county member of parliament and Wife , Christine Okabe died on Monday morning in a road accident in Mbale-Tirinyi road after a head on collision with a truck at Naboa town council in Budaka district.
The Serere MP who was driving in his V8 land cruiser registration number UBK 995F is reported by police to have collided with a Kenyan Isuzu Fuso truck registration number KCX0710.
The MP died on spot while wife died on her way to the Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, their driver only identified as Jacob is in hospital, in critical condition.
“The cause of the accident has been attributed to the Isuzu box body driver who drifted from his side to the side of the Land cruiser that was coming from Mbale heading to Iganga and had a head on collision,” ASP Nampiima said.
Bishop Patrick Okabe is also the founder of Faith FM in Mbale, a Christian based radio station and Rhema high school in Soroti district.
The Deputy Speaker of parliament – Thomas Tayebwa Eulogized the deceased as A true voice of reason, an author, a passionate believer in the almighty and peace maker on twitter.
“Extremely sad to comprehend the passing on of Hon. Patrick Okabe, MP Serere County. A true voice of reason, an author, a passionate believer in the Almighty and Peace Maker, Hon. Okabe has died at a time when we needed him most! Condolences to the family. Rest in Peace brother.” the deputy speaker tweeted.
The bodies still lie in Mbale hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem as driver of the Fuso truck is on the run – police report.
