Harry Maguire the team captain at Manchester United has vowed to fight for his place despite competition from Martinez and Varane. Under Erik ten Hag – the team’s coach, the English international footballer has fallen behind Varane and Martinez at the team pecking order.

After receiving a chance to play 90 minutes in the Carabao cup against Charlton 3-0, Maguire was more than determined to prove his worth at the club.

“It felt good, I played last week as well against Bournemouth. I was unfortunate in terms of when I come back from the World Cup, I had a bad illness, to be honest, and it knocked me back for one or two weeks. I feel good now. We have a lot of good Centre-halves at this club, there’s a lot of competition for places and I’ll keep fighting.”
