Uganda has acquired its fourth modern heart machine which will be at Medipal international Hospital – a private facility.
The machine commonly referred to as a cath lab (catheterization laboratory) is fully equipped with imaging equipment to detect and manage various heart conditions. It is guaranteed to reduce the number of people traveling abroad for specialised treatment.
Dr. Sedat Gunes – the medical Director at Medipal hospital submitted that cardiovascular diseases are very common in Africa due to diabetes, genetic structure and hypertension.
“This machine can help health workers check the neck arteries that go to the kidney side and other parts of the body, and it is a machine that will serve Ugandans very well,” Dr. Gunes said.
The 1st Cath Lab was acquired in 2012 by Uganda Heart Institute, followed by Nakasero Hospital, Kasubi hospital then now Medipal. The equipment at Medipal hospital is said to be operational in March.
