A grade one magistrate in Rakai has been dismissed from the Judiciary over abuse of office. The Judicial Service Commission has dismissed Latif Abubaker Nakibinge, a grade one magistrate at Rakai court from the service.
He allegedly withdrew money from the court Operation Fund Account but failed to hand it over to the owner, withdrawing about seven million shillings being the defendant’s costs. The money should have been handed to Kamugunda of Matovu and Kamugunda and Company Advocates. URN reports that Abubaker was actually dismissed on 17th , 2023 by the commission with immediate effect following a meeting held on the same day.
He was charged with one account of abuse of judicial authority in contravention with the regulations of the Judicial Service Commission.
The former grade one magistrate was charged and made to appear before the Disciplinary Committee of the Commission where charges were read to him, he allegedly pleaded guilty and asked for leniency which request the commission didn’t honor and dismissed him.
The news of his dismissal from the commission was communicated to him by Julius Mwebembezi the secretary of the Judicial Service commission.
