Speaking at the Launch of the 16 factories at the industrial park today, Marrison Rwakakamba – Chairman Board of Directors Uganda Investments Authority said the park has the capacity to hold 60 factories. “This is an opportunity for us to employ our people and improve our manufacturing capacity”, He added.

The Government in an attempt to challenge the rising unemployment in the country, has launched the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park project today. Rwakakamba said that over 5000 Ugandans are already employed at the different factories at the industrial park.

The different factories at the industrial park include; Pearl Light Technologies which manufactures LED bulbs, Ubon personal care which manufactures washing detergents and Victoria cables(electric cables), Kyoga textiles(making socks).

“Mbale industrial park is on 619 acres of land about 5000 Ugandans are already employed at the different factories in the park. The new factories will be into manufacturing of clothing, metal shells production, production of tempered glass, furniture, paint, LED bulbs, cables and wires, diapers,” Mr. Rwakakamba noted.

He added that by creating these jobs, the government is also saving since we will be manufacturing back home many products that the government has been importing.

“In full capacity, the industrial park will employ over 2500 people directly and many more will be employed indirectly”, Marrison Rwakakamba.

State Minister for investment, Hon. Evelyn Anite disclosed that government has secured land through local government, enough land from across the country for development of 25 industrial parks to boost industrialization.

The Director General of Uganda Investments Authority-Robert Mukiza reported that the president has given a directive that the 25 industrial parks be built by 2025.
