At around 10pm Thursday 18th Oct, 2023 in Murchison Falls park, six lives were claimed in a road accident along Masindi- Pakwach road.

A team of eight was traveling with construction material from Kampala to Pakwach when the Isuzu they were traveling in got involved in an accident killing six people including the driver on the spot and the other two left in critical condition.

The deceased have been identified as; Oscar Nyankoli 23 (resident of Lira district), Aaron Akandwanaho 24 from Rukiiga district, Mohammad Swaleh 23, Constance Bizimana 24 and Vincent Odoch 29 – the driver, the sixth person is yet to be identified.

Police say that they delayed to get the information and rescue survivors because the accident happened in Murchison falls.

“By the time our officers arrived at the accident scene, six people had lost their lives but managed to rescue two survivors and rushed them to the hospital for medical treatment,” Julius  Hakiza -The Albertine Region Police spokesperson.

The survivors were first rushed to Masindi General Hospital before they were referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital for further attention.

The two survivors were identified as Emmanuel Muhuruzi and Otim. These were still in critical condition in Mulago hospital at the time of this report.

The Albertine Region Police Spokesperson reports that the preliminary police investigations indicate that the vehicle developed a mechanical problem.
