Most recently, about April as I sat doing something- my mind begun to think about a particular promise I know God had given me but I just wasn’t seeing it. This prayer request, declaration, decree had appeared on almost all my notebooks for years now. Without me paying much attention, a frustration was brewing in my heart, again without much notice, I left what I was doing and went to put water to drink into a glass and I heard a whisper in my ear, “Curse God and Die”
Very quickly I snapped out and thought “I know this statement” – I remembered that those were words Mrs. Job had said to her husband. Almost before I could blink, the spirit of God took me on a journey to understand how the enemy or satan gets us be the very ones to bring delay, limitation on the promise God has given us and I want to share those insights quickly.
Job 1 describes the man Job; both the Land UZ and God have a report about Job as an upright, blameless, shuns evil, servant of God, a man of integrity among others. In Job 2:9, the bible says, “then his wife said to him, do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die”.
The adverb ‘then’ is to indicate something happened in the past. Job 1:13 says “now there was a day…”And this was the beginning of his loss, by Job 2:9 – His health was attacked.
Note; Even with the marriage covenant that made these two one, she could not curse God for Job-he had to be the one to say it. Same trick the enemy used in Eden, the enemy had to get man to rebel God for himself then he could carry around those papers with legal stamps (Interesting how the pattern is still the same; lure the woman to lure the man)
The enemy is aware of the fact that you are your first prophet, anyone can say things over you but there is just something about you doing it yourself. Proverbs 18:21 –Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words. Numbers 23:23, for there is no sorcery against Jacob, nor any divination against Israel. It now must be said of Jacob and of Israel, “oh what God has done”
Note; this word is true, when you read Numbers 23 fully; you will meet the king Balak and the prophet Balaam. Several times Balaam under Balak’s request tried to curse the children of Israel but he could not. He said in Numbers 23:8, “How shall I curse whom God has not cursed and how shall I denounce whom the Lord has not denounced?
When you see Numbers 25, you discover that Israel had to partner in bringing herself to destruction, they got into harlotry with the Moabite women, sacrificed and bowed to their gods.
When that voice whispered to me, “curse God and die”, it was to suggest, “God hasn’t come through- are you going to stay and stay faithful- give up!” and sometimes in such moments you hear statements like, ”nabikoowa, nabyesoonyiwa, nakitta, mbivudeko, ye’nfaaki…”- denounce it with your very mouth and lose the promise.
Ephesians 4:29 says; Let no corrupt talk/word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. Anything that goes against the confession of Christ about you or a situation should be seen as corrupt talk, or filthy talk.
In that moment while I stood taking in the lessons-the Holy Spirit quickly brought my mind to who God is and I began to wage war in my mind; for though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete (2 Corinthians 10:3-6)
I began to say, “no, God is able!, I remembered Isaiah 40: 28; Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
I confessed all the things he had fulfilled and like Job I remembered, “shall we only bless God when he does good things and curse him when bad happens”, no!
