The East Africa giants St. Mary’s Kitende received a surprise defeat against newbies Bukedea Comprehensive School in an opening fixture of the 2025 FEASSA Games championship underway in Kakamega, Kenya.
Bukedea Comprehensive School beat St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary 2-1 to claim the bragging rights in a Ugandan affair.
Patrick Ssenkusu and Denis Ssewagude netted for Bukedea, while the consolation for Kitende came from Denis Kisiriko.
Both sides played to a barren draw in the first stanza; however, ten minutes into the second half, Patrick Ssenkusu, with a cool pass between the low post and the keeper, handed Bukedea the lead, thanks to Wanyama Simon’s well-calculated low cross from the right flank.
Four minutes later, St. Mary’s Kitende replied through Denis Kisiriko’s top strike, and the match returned to square one.
In the 71st minute, Bukedea won a free kick at least 25 yards from the right wing — a sweet spot for the left-footed player — and Denis Ssewagude made no error, swerving the ball into the far top corner of the net to restore Bukedea’s lead. Bukedea had to defend their advantage for eight more minutes and finally walked home with an important victory.
In Group A, the USSSA National Champions Buddo SS beat FEASSA defending champions Amus College 1-0 in a match that took place at the Rehabilitation Center grounds, Kakamega.
