Sommet BC will head into the National Basketball League Playoffs with confidence as they prepare to face KCCA Panthers in the opening game of the quarterfinals.
The league debutants, who impressed in their first-ever top-flight campaign, finished the regular season in third place with 14 wins from 22 games. Their opponents, KCCA Panthers, sealed sixth place after managing 12 victories and 10 defeats.
Despite their superior position, Sommet face a stern test against a side that already has their number this season. The Panthers defeated them twice in the regular season, winning 60-55 in the first round and edging a 55-52 victory in the return leg.

Sommet head coach Albert Aciko admitted his side must step up if they are to progress.
“The break has been great, it has given us some time to put in some work, a lot of improvements from different individuals,” Aciko said. “I am excited to see them compete after days of hard work. It’s not going to be an easy three-game series against KCCA, they are a tough team. We lost to them in both matches so we basically have to be more aggressive. I am very contented with the manpower I have.”
Sommet will count on the influence of key players Peter Cheng, Nyembo Fataki, Kasereka Tembo and Mark Ngobi, who were instrumental in their successful regular season run.
The matchup promises to be one of the most intriguing ties of the playoffs as Sommet chase a historic semifinal spot at the very first attempt.
