The Association of Uganda University Sports [AUUS] has decided to ban all active masaza players from participating in the University Football League .

This is decided due to the growing concerns over academic performance of football players who feature in both the masaza and university league .

A tutor of one university clearely stated ” These boys are always up and down to either masaza cup camps or university football training venues and games “

They hardly have time to settle in the lecture rooms to study ,write examination and concetrate he added

Tutors also stated that there is continued indiscipline among the masaza players that creates a bad image for the universities and games .This concern is not unfounded given the recent controversies sorrounding the masaza cup ,including incidents of fan violence and disputes over refereeing decisions.

The ban will be implied as follows :

  • 3players from the masaza will be used this season
  • 2 players will be used in the 2026 season
  • 1 player will be used in the 2027 season
  • by 2028 , all players will be barred from participating in the University Football League .

The AUUS aims to ensure that university football players priotize their academic responsibilites and maintain a high level of discpline on and off the field of play .

By restricting the number of masaza cup players , the association hopes to promote a more balanced approach to sports and academics in universities .

It should be remembered that the same committee imposed a similar ban on Uganda Premier League and Big league players in 2015
