Uganda’s long-distance running sensation Jacob Kiplimo has returned home from the United States after a historic victory at the 2025 Chicago Marathon, where he clocked a new national record time of 2:02:23 — his second appearance in a World Marathon Major.

The 24-year-old star produced a commanding performance, dominating a world-class field to secure Uganda’s place among the elite of global marathon running. This latest achievement marks another milestone in Kiplimo’s remarkable career, which began with his breakout performance at the 2017 World Cross Country Championships.

Speaking upon his return, Kiplimo confirmed his transition from track events to marathon running, signaling a new chapter in his athletic journey. However, he emphasized that his immediate focus remains on defending his World Cross Country Championship title early next year.

His coach, Peter Chelangat, highlighted the wider impact of Kiplimo’s success, noting that it has inspired not just the Sebei region—known for producing Uganda’s finest runners—but the entire nation.

At Entebbe Airport, Kiplimo was received by Milton Chebet, the Assistant General Secretary of the National Council of Sports, who praised his performance, saying it reflects the continued growth and promise of Ugandan athletics on the global stage.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2017, Kiplimo has enjoyed immense success on the track, but his recent triumphs on the road and in cross-country have cemented his reputation as one of Uganda’s greatest athletes.

Welcome back home, Jacob Kiplimo — Chicago Marathon Champion and Uganda’s pride.
