Uganda Start Strong In The East African Parliamentary Games

The Uganda Parliamentary football team began their EAC title defense in style with a commanding 4–1 victory over Burundi under the floodlights of the MTN Omondi Stadium.

Katikamu North legislator Hon. Dennis Ssekabira delivered a man-of-the-match performance, scoring a sensational second-half hat-trick.

Hon. John Lamatia had earlier given Uganda an early advantage with a goal just two minutes after kickoff.

Burundi’s Hon. Shabani Nimubona pulled one back, but it proved to be only a consolation as Uganda continued to dominate the encounter.

Kampala Central legislator Hon. Muhammad Nsereko missed an opportunity to get on the scoreboard after failing to convert from the penalty mark.

The East African Community Games were officially opened at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, in a colorful ceremony presided over by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa.

The Inter-Parliamentary Games highlight the EAC’s commitment to integration beyond political dialogue.

Over the next two weeks, lawmakers will compete in several sports disciplines including football, netball, volleyball, basketball, athletics, golf, darts, and tug of war.

Ugandan legislators return to action on Sunday, December 7th, taking on Kenya in basketball at the Lugogo Indoor Arena at 2 pm.
