The Uganda Police Force, in collaboration with sister security agencies and local leaders, has arrested 95 suspects during a series of intelligence-led operations targeting criminal hotspots in Kira Municipality and the Kira Road policing areas.
The operations follow public concerns over criminal gangs allegedly terrorizing neighbourhoods through drug abuse, bag snatching, phone theft, and nighttime attacks.
On February 3, 2026, security teams conducted a crackdown in Kireka Railway, Kamuli, Kyaliwajjala Market, and Naalya in Namugongo Division, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District. A total of 62 suspects were arrested, and exhibits of suspected opium were recovered. After joint screening, 39 suspects were arraigned before court on February 5 on charges related to possession of narcotic substances.
A second operation on February 4, 2026, targeted hideouts in Kulambiro–Kyanja, Tubba, and Kisaasi under the Kira Road policing area. Nineteen suspects were arrested with exhibits and are currently detained at Kira Road Police Division pending fingerprinting, screening, and court appearance.
On February 9, 2026, an intelligence-led operation in Mulawa and Nsasa, Kira Municipality, led to the arrest of 14 additional suspects. Quantities of suspected narcotic substances were recovered from makeshift structures. The suspects remain detained at Kira Police Station as case files are finalized for possible prosecution.
Police say the coordinated operations are part of sustained efforts to dismantle criminal gangs, combat drug abuse, and reduce street crime in the affected communities.
The Uganda Police Force has commended residents for their cooperation and urged the public to continue sharing timely information about suspicious activity through local police stations, area commanders, or dedicated hotlines, noting that community support remains vital in enhancing public safety.
