China has strongly condemned the recent U.S.–Israeli military strikes on Iran that reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, calling the operation a serious violation of international law.

Speaking in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the attack constituted “a serious violation of Iran’s sovereignty and security” and breached the principles of the UN Charter and basic norms of international relations. She urged all parties to immediately halt military operations and prevent further escalation.

The remarks follow a joint U.S.–Israel operation, after which U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to intensify action against Iran’s missile capabilities. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced large-scale missile and drone strikes targeting Israel. Reports also indicate that U.S. military installations in several Gulf states have come under attack amid the escalation.

Beijing expressed deep concern over the conflict’s spillover effects, stressing that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Gulf nations must be respected. China also warned against instability in the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a critical global energy and trade corridor.

Mao dismissed foreign media reports alleging that China was nearing a deal with Iran to purchase CM-302 supersonic anti-ship missiles, calling the claims “untrue” and accusing unnamed parties of “malicious hype.”

According to the Iranian Red Crescent, more than 555 people have been killed since the outbreak of hostilities, with at least 131 cities affected.

China reiterated its call for restraint, urging all sides to de-escalate and safeguard regional and global stability.
