The Omusinga of Rwenzururu, Charles Wesley Mumbere, departed for Turkey at around 3:00 a.m. today to receive medical treatment following extensive negotiations with the Ugandan government.
Having faced treason charges since his 2016 arrest, Mumbere expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for facilitating his travel and for the government’s continued support.
The king is expected to undergo treatment and later return to Uganda to preside over key Rwenzururu Kingdom cultural events, including his coronation celebrations, before the end of 2025.
