This follows the flag-off of a group of <strong>697 pupils and 23 staff members<\/strong> from <strong>Hillside Nursery and Primary School, Naalya<\/strong>, by the <strong>Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda, Ambassador Joash Maangi<\/strong>, for an educational excursion to <strong>Mombasa, Kenya<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The delegation, comprising <strong>Primary Seven finalists<\/strong>, was officially flagged off at the <strong>Kenya High Commission in Kampala<\/strong> before departing for the coastal city. During their visit, the learners will travel aboard the <strong>Standard Gauge Railway (SGR)<\/strong> and explore iconic sites such as <strong>Fort Jesus<\/strong>, the <strong>Marine Park<\/strong>, and other landmarks that define Kenya\u2019s vibrant coastal heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"678\" src=\"https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/222-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-624\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/222-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/222-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/222-768x508.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/222.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking at the ceremony, <strong>Ambassador Joash Maangi<\/strong> commended Hillside Nursery and Primary School for maintaining a long-standing tradition of exposing Ugandan learners to Kenya\u2019s cultural, historical, and geographical richness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201c<em>First and foremost, I want to thank Hillside Nursery and Primary School for choosing Kenya as the destination to celebrate the end of their primary schooling days,\u201d Ambassador Maangi said. \u201cKenya and Uganda are each other\u2019s most important tourism partners. Kenya provides Uganda with the highest number of tourists from any country, while Uganda gives Kenya the second largest number of visitors after the United States.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"678\" src=\"https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/333-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-625\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/333-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/333-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/333-768x508.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/333.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ambassador Maangi revealed that Kenya is targeting <strong>300,000 Ugandan visitors by the end of 2025<\/strong>, up from <strong>270,000<\/strong> the previous year, noting that the Hillside school group contributes meaningfully toward that goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201c<em>This group alone adds nearly 700 visitors to our total. We are pleased and optimistic that such exchanges will help us meet our target<\/em>,\u201d he added. \u201c<em>It\u2019s a wonderful experience for the young ones to appreciate East Africa and to grow up knowing that Kenya is their home\u2014just as young Kenyans view Uganda as theirs.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mr. Fredrick Batulabudde<\/strong>, the <strong>Deputy Head Teacher of Hillside Nursery and Primary School<\/strong>, highlighted that the annual excursion has been a school tradition for over 15 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201c<em>A lot of what our learners study in social studies will now come alive during this trip<\/em>,\u201d Mr. Batulabudde said. \u201c<em>They will visit historical and geographical sites that will deepen their understanding and inspire them as they move on to secondary school.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Uganda remains <strong>Kenya\u2019s leading African source market<\/strong> and <strong>second globally<\/strong> after the United States. In <strong>2019<\/strong>, Kenya received <strong>215,894 visitors from Uganda<\/strong>, marking a <strong>5.4% increase<\/strong> from the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Africa continues to be Kenya\u2019s largest source market, contributing <strong>975,883 arrivals in 2024<\/strong>, or <strong>40.8% of all international visitors<\/strong>. Within the <strong>East African Community (EAC)<\/strong>, Uganda accounts for <strong>31.7%<\/strong> of all African arrivals, followed by <strong>Tanzania (28.5%)<\/strong>, <strong>Somalia (11.4%)<\/strong>, and <strong>Rwanda (9.2%)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strong bilateral ties and open-border policies have facilitated this growth\u2014Ugandans can travel to Kenya using only a <strong>national ID or residence permit<\/strong>. Moreover, enhanced <strong>air connectivity<\/strong> through <strong>Kenya Airways<\/strong>, <strong>Jambojet<\/strong>, <strong>RwandAir<\/strong>, and <strong>Uganda Airlines<\/strong>\u2014which launched a <strong>direct Mombasa route<\/strong> last year\u2014has improved accessibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"678\" src=\"https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/444-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-626\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/444-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/444-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/444-768x508.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gugudde.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/444.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Kenya Tourism Board (KTB)<\/strong> has further intensified marketing efforts in Uganda through digital campaigns such as <strong>#TugendeKenya<\/strong>, aimed at showcasing Kenya\u2019s diverse destinations and cultural experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kenya\u2019s long-term objective is to position itself as the <strong>destination of choice<\/strong> for Ugandan travellers while promoting reciprocal tourism across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In closing, <strong>Ambassador Maangi<\/strong> emphasized that beyond boosting numbers, such initiatives are building lasting regional bonds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201c<em>We are not just building numbers; we are building relationships.
