Member of Parliament, Hon. Asuman Basalirwa, the Bugiri Municipality representative who tabled the Anti-Homosexuality Bill in parliament has informed the public that Speaker of parliament, Hon. Anita Among had her Visa revoked, banned from travels to the US until further notice due to her strong hand in the passing of this law which is deemed tough according to the west.

It is rumored that the US embassy in Kampala revoked Visa of parliament speaker on 12th May, 2023 and plans to do this for other government officials and Ugandans against same sex relationships.

The US secretary for State, Anthony Blinken says that the US is considering deploying existing Visa restriction tools against Ugandan officials and other individuals.

“Uganda’s failure to safeguard the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons is part of a broader degradation of human rights protections that puts Ugandan citizens at risk and damages the country’s reputation as a destination for investment, development, tourism, and refugees.” He said.

Anthony Blinken says that Washington is deeply troubled by Uganda’s passage of the law that undermines the human rights, prosperity , and welfare of all Ugandans.

A law widely celebrated at home in Uganda is described as a distress in the west, ” The United State urges the government of Uganda to refrain from implementing laws that undermine human rights” – Blinken added.

Ugandans on the other hand seem to be willing to sacrifice much to ensure a standing moral culture with the words of the speaker of parliament after the law was assented.

“As the Parliament of Uganda, we have answered the cries of our people. We have legislated to protect the sanctity of family as per Article 31 of the Constitution of Uganda. We have stood strong to defend our culture and aspirations of our people as per objectives 19 & 24 of national objectives and directive principles of state policy.” Among noted
