Every 1st December the world gets as one to commemorate the World Aids Day founded in 1988. Uganda joins the rest of the world to support those people living with HIV and to remember those that have fallen due to the virus.

This year’s global theme “Equalize,” along with the Uganda national theme, “Ending Inequalities Among Adolescent Girls, Young Women and Boys, point us in the right direction towards a strong multi-sectoral commitment to ending the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

As the world rejoices for better days ahead as more manageable ways come up to fight the virus, Uganda reports more cases of HIV infections. Health officers in Mbale express concern as numbers of persons with HIV shunning medication increase.

It has been reported that many patients shun the ART (Anti-retroviral Therapy) clinics due to stigma. More cases of HIV have been reported among young people; adolescents having girls with more. Mbale alone is reported to have about 10,000 HIV patients.
