After the controversial decision to allow teenage mothers in school, minister of state for Gender and culture -Peace Mutuuzo demanded that the school going breastfeeding mothers should be allocated special rooms for breastfeeding.

While speaking at a regional meeting on prevention of sexual and gender based violence and holistic care for victims and survivors of SGBV at the international conference on the Great Lakes Region at Sheraton Kampala, the minister charged the public, religious leaders and educationists not to point fingers at these girls since most of them are victims, instead to support them.

She encouraged that schools not only be places of learning for these girls but also provide psychosocial support -Schools should set up nursing facilities for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers on their premises she added.

Uganda registered some of the highest numbers of teenage pregnancies during a Covid19 lockdown that took up to almost two years. The country educationists were left in utter confusion when schools were finally opened with no students to return to the class rooms.
