A couple in Mubende has been murdered in what police has called a double murder over a land dispute between the land lord, now deceased, and the squatters.
Milly Naave Namutebi 54 and her husband Abudalah Kayezi 53 were allegedly attacked by a mob of 30 people which her surviving son (Muzafaru Ssekamate) says were in possession of machetes, spears, clubs and axes.
One of the suspects identified as Tumusiime Benjamin who allegedly led a group of 30 people that attacked the couple with their children has been arrested.
“Tumusiime was successfully apprehended yesterday(August 06, 2023) at around 10:00pm by a joint task team consisting of the CID in Watuba town, Wakiso town. He is currently in custody at Mubende CPS”, Ms. Rachel Kawala, the wamala Region police spokesperson.
“The unfortunate attack occurred while the victims were leaving Tumusiime Benjamin’s home, resulting in the tragic death of Namutebi Milly Naave and her husband, while their two sons sustained serious injuries but managed to escape,” she added.
The family is said to have been ambushed as they headed to the garden to collect food at around 8am. This gruesome act happened in Kilwanyi village, kilwanyi parish, kiruma sub county.
Relatives of Namutebi blamed the area politicians for inciting the squatters against land lords to gain political capital.
