The parents and guardians of the children that died in Salaama school for the blind in Mukono when fire gutted the girls dormitory have refused the school’s suggestion.
Mr. Francis Kinubi, the school head teacher wanted all the victims to be buried at the school so that a monument can be built in their remembrance.
The reactions from those that lost their loved ones was however inconsistent with the wishes of the school.
“They should not talk or even think about burying our children at the school. I raised this child when her mother abandoned her,” Mr. Tingo Openja, the father of Pretty Parwoth, one of the victims, said. “I want my child’s body. I don’t want to hear anything else. He added”
“Since last week we have been patiently waiting for the bodies of our children to be handed over to us. We can’t accept them to be buried at the school,” Ms Namatovu, a grandmother of Peace Nalumiisi said.
Mr. Tumusiime, the school deputy head teacher informed the public however that since the rejection from parents, the school administration has since then abandoned the proposal.
