The former Bank of Uganda (BoU) Secretary, George Nyeko has been confirmed dead by close family.

The 68 year old worked at the BoU for about 32 years in multiple departments before rising in rank. He retired from Bank of Uganda in March, 2015 and died on Saturday June 3rd, 2023 at IHK (International Hospital Kampala.)

Sam Otim, a son of the deceased said that Mr. Nyeko died of Liposarcoma. Liposarcoma is a cancer that develops in one’s fatty issue. This tumor can grow in any part of the body but the common places include; abdomen, knee, thigh.

Otim reports that the condition begun in 2018. He is survived by a wife; Jolly Nyeko and four children; Ken Olara, Sam Otim, Lois Aber Kwikiriza and Eunice Asiimwe Nyote.

He will be remembered for contributing growth to the central bank through junior mentorship including Susan Wasagali Kanyemibwa , the current Secretary for Bank of Uganda.

” I stand here today to give a testimony that I am what I am today partly because of Mr. Nyeko”, Ms. Susan attested at the vigil in their home in Mutungo.
