Kizza Besigye , four time presidential candidate and human rights activist on 24th May, 2022 at Arua park in Kampala addressed the public without the knowledge of the police.

Besigye is accused of encouraging the public to protest the high commodity prices which will cause violence and destruction of property according to the state.

He was arrested in Kampala where he is said to have been telling Ugandans to “wake up” and go against the government inaction to the skyrocketing commodity prices and what he called, “stupid succession birthdays.”

The former presidential candidate was charged at the Buganda Road Magistrate Court with incitement to violence. He pleaded not guilty.

He was thereafter remanded to Luzira prison after refusing to pay a cash bail of Shs 30m.

“Buganda Road Magistrate Court, where I’ve been changed with ‘inciting violence’, has just granted me cash bail of SHS 30m! I consider this an extension of the injustices I’ve faced for long. I’ve asked my lawyers to appeal it as I endure remand. All Ugandans should stand firm Vs injustices ” He tweeted.

He will return to court on July 16th, 2022.
