Students at Makerere University received relief after the Vice Chancellor – Prof. Nawangwe directed the bursar to waive off the surcharge for late registration as earlier requested by the University Student’s Guild body.
“This is to confirm that your request to waive the surcharge due to late registration owing to the prevailing economic hardships faced by parents and guardians is approved,” Prof Nawangwe indicated in a January 9th letter addressed to the guild leadership.
The University policy mandates continuing students to pay at least shs 200,000 in the first two weeks after reporting to school before registering. Freshers [NEW BEGINING STUDENTS] on the other hand are mandated to pay 60% of their fees in the first two weeks. Failure to do this, students are required to pay a surcharge 0f 50,000shs per siting examination.
The university vice chancellor informed assertively that the waiver only applies to this semester as the university studies the situation.
