MP’s Ssewanyana Allan and Ssegirinya Mohammad have finally been granted bail after over 500 days in jail – nearly 17 months. The Masaka high resident judge Lawrence Tweyanze granted the two temporary freedom on Monday.
“I grant the applicants (MP’s) bail with the following conditions; Shs20m cash for each of the applicants, Shs50m not cash for each of the sureties, report to the International Crimes Division of the High Court once every month and they should not interfere with the investigations,” ruled Justice Lawrence Tweyanze of Masaka High Court amid ululations by the MP’s supporters who had filled the courtroom.
The Masaka resident state Attorney -Mr. Richard Birivubuka told court that the DPP had issued a certificate of no objection to that effect.
MP Ssewanyana Allan- Makindye and MP Ssegirinya Mohammad -Kawempe North were accused of being behind the sweep of the machete murders that claimed over 26 people in the greater Masaka region in 2021.
It is important to remember that the accused have been denied bail 3 times before.
