Cpl Oloya has been confirmed dead after being shot by robbers that raided a mobile money shop and soda depot in the neighboring Mubende district said to be belonging to a one Bonani Javier Fils.
Police in Kassada District are investigating circumstances under which one of their officers died after allegedly being shot by suspected robbers he was pursuing. Oloya Joseph was shot on Monday at about 5:40pm and died after being rushed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
The robbers are said to have used a motorcycle to flee the scene after taking the police officer’s magazine but left the gun behind. Police crime intelligence led by DPC Kassada visited the crime scene and picked relevant statements to aid the investigation.
Ms.Phoebe Namulindwa , Kassada RDC reported that the district has been experiencing a surge of incidents involving armed robberies. Police says the robberies involving mobile money are more rampant than ever.
“It is unfortunate that we have lost our police officer in pursuit of the armed thugs but security is on alert and the assailants will be apprehended. I extend my condolences to the family of the deceased and the government of Uganda for the loss of our dedicated officer.” she said.
The motorcycle registration number UDX755C Bajaj boxer red in color and said to belong to the suspects has been recovered abandoned.
