President Museveni while addressing the congregants in Wii-Gweng village in Mucwini sub-county , kitgum District during the celebration of the archbishop Janani Luwum day, in response to a plea by Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu for government to join the church to condemn homosexuality responded that “Uganda will not support Homosexuality”.
“We have been telling them ‘please, this problem of homosexuality is not something that you should normalize and celebrate,” he said, adding, “They (Western countries) don’t listen, they don’t respect other people’s views and they want to turn the abnormal into normal and force it on others. We shall not agree.”
Archbishop Kaziimba of the church of Uganda who in 2008 broke ranks with Episcopal church of America after the Anglican church there consecrated a gay as bishop said Canterbury decision contradicted the Bible and God.
The church in England also on the 9th Feb voted for priests to bless same sex couples in civil marriage. Pope Francis on the other hand, while on a visit to Congo called laws against homosexuality ‘sin’ and ‘injustice’.
Amidst increasing fears of the vice eating up the country, Uganda is one of the 77 countries that criminalize gay and lesbian practices according to the UN.
