Dr. Besigye’s vehicle was towed to the Central Police station during his arrest amid this year when he protested against the then skyrocketing commodity prices.

His vehicle was taken while he was arrested and charged with allegedly inciting violence in the public.

The prosecution led by Ivan Kyazze indicated that they had no objection toward the release of the vehicle, their concern was that it is registered in the names of Obendi Kamulegeya and not Dr. Besigye. They further told court that Erias Lukwago, the lawyer of Dr. Besigye – had not provided evidence of proof of ownership of vehicle by Dr. Besigye.

Erias Lukwago in response insisted that since the vehicle was reclaimed from Dr. Besigye, it’s only logical that it’s returned to him.

This was the court’s judgment:

“Having heard the submissions for both parties, I allow the application and direct the prosecution and by extension the inspector of police to release the motor vehicle registration No UAK773F to A1 (Dr. Besigye) subject to production of proof of ownership or to Mr. Obendi Kamulegeya, the name in which it is registered,” ordered Magistrate Asuman Muhumuza.

The main case was adjourned to December 14th for further hearing.
