Jinja city dwellers protested skyrocketing commodity prices which have with no doubt been largely influenced by the high fuel prices, a case not independent to Uganda but all around the globe.

Ugandans agree that its everywhere except that they feel like the government isn’t doing any thing as prices have been going up from year start and even higher in the last three months.

A liter of fuel has been spotted to have gone to 6,500shs across the city and traded at up to 7,000shs in rural , upcountry places from 3,600shs in February.

Deputy IGP (Inspector General of Police), Maj. Gen. Tumusiime Katsigazi has however warned Ugandans against demonstrations on the cost of living as he insists the government is doing everything they can.

The IGP also reacted due to the threats that have been spread over social media that Kampala City will be locked, by unknown people. The unknown group suggested on social media that Ugandans stay home from 25th -27th July, 2022 in protest against the high living cost in the country.

“Nobody has the capacity to lock down a city like Kampala other than the government of Uganda and if somebody turns up and stops people from accessing the city by one way or the other we shall arrest them,” Maj. Gen Katsigazi.
