As the delayed Somali presidential elections draw close , the pressure is clear among all candidates. The elections which were initially scheduled for December 2021 were then agreeably shifted to Feb 25, which is 4 days from today.

The President of Somalia – Mohammed Abdullahi Farmaajo and Prime minister – Mohammad Hussein Roble publicly rejected an oil revenue generating deal.

The deal by the ministry of Petroleum and an American firm was seeking to invoke support from the President after the minister for petroleum announced the news that Somalia had signed a production sharing agreement with Coastline Exploration limited- a US firm, to begin work, on Saturday.

The President however rejected the deal publicly minutes after the announcement citing that the deal violates the presidential decree that bans engagements and acts with foreign entities during election time.
