President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni celebrated the 39th NRM/NRA Victory Day Anniversary at the National Teachers’ College Grounds in Mubende District. He commended the people of Mubende and Greater Luwero for their support during the liberation struggle, highlighting Mubende’s role as an operation area.

The President expressed his happiness with the transformation Mubende has undergone, saying “We didn’t fight for nothing.” He noted that Uganda’s economy has grown significantly since independence, with initiatives like Operation Wealth Creation and the Parish Development Model (PDM) aimed at expanding the economy and reducing poverty.

However, President Museveni expressed concern that 68% of the population remains in poverty, urging leaders to use PDM funds carefully and warning against misappropriation. He encouraged people to transition from subsistence agriculture to commercial agriculture to escape poverty.

The celebrations, held under the theme “39 Years of NRM/A: Salutations to Those Who Re-sanctified our Homeland,” also featured the awarding of medals to citizens who contributed to the country’s transformation and liberation struggle. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the First Lady, Vice President, and Cabinet Ministers.
