The parliament of Uganda has today given Julius Ssekitoleko 10million , Uganda shillings for support. With this the government hopes that he will start up a business and support his family. This initiative was headed by shadow minister for sports, Hon: Sewungu, Sarah Opendi and deputy speaker.

On 16th July 2021, a few days before the Olympics begun in Tokyo, the 20 year old Julius Ssekitoleko went missing from hotel Osaka in Japan.

The weight lifter went missing for 5 days during which Japan was in an emergency state due to the Covid19 increased cases, making Ssekitoleko’s disappearance, international news.

Through joint effort between the Japan police and Uganda embassy in Japan, Julius Ssekitoleko was found in the city of Yokkaichi; Mei prefecture, after 5 days of being registered as missing in the Olympics training camp.

Julius on return to Uganda was detained by Uganda police ignoring pleas from his family, including those from a 5 months pregnant girlfriend. He later was released after thorough investigations were run.

Ssekitoleko no doubt needed financial support as rumors indicate that a writing was found back in Tokyo while he went missing, where he gestured his need for work in Japan and thus disappearing.
