The greatest in football according to FIFA – popularly known as Pele is dead. The Legendary Brazilian Footballer died on the 29th December, 2022.

Pele, born October.23rd, 1940 – south eastern of Tres Coracoes as Edson Arantes Do Nascimento has been in and out of hospital with frail health due to kidney problems and colon cancer; undergoing surgery and chemotherapy for the latter. “I will face this match with a smile on my face,” he posted humorously on Instagram in September 2021, after surgery to remove his colon tumor.

Nicknamed O Rei [the ‘King’] because of his mastery of the game, Pele was named athlete of the century by the international Olympics, The G.O.A.T by FIFA and , a legend among other titles during his lifetime and active football career.

The 3 time world cup winner [no one else has the record] died at 82 after retiring from active football in 1977. At the time, he served in many roles including; movie star, singer, minister for sports, and one of the first black cabinet members in Brazil. Pele scored an all time of 1,281 goals in 1,363 matches for Santos [1956-74], The Brazilian national team and the New York Cosmos[1975-77].

He will be remembered for; helping Brazil to its first world cup win at only 17 years of age , scoring more than 1,000 goals in one of the storied careers in sports.

It is noteworthy that Pele was a name given to him for his mispronunciation of the name Bile, a goal keeper at Vasco De Sao Lourenco , where his footballer father once played.
