Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has recalled midfielders Bobosi Byaruhanga and Allan Oyirwoth as part of his 26-man squad for the decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria in October.
The US-based duo, Byaruhanga (Oakland Roots) and Oyirwoth (New England Revolution), return after missing out on the recent fixtures against Mozambique and Somalia. Their comeback is expected to inject creativity, composure, and attacking balance into a midfield that will be key to Uganda’s chances of securing positive results away from home.
Coach Put has also made notable exclusions, with Joel Mutakubwa, Elvis Bwomono, Karim Watambala, Patrick Jonah Kakande, and John Paul Dembe missing out this time.
Uganda sits second in Group G with 15 points, four behind leaders Algeria and level with Mozambique. With just two matches left, the Cranes must deliver strong performances to keep their hopes of a historic first-ever World Cup appearance alive. Only group winners will qualify automatically, while the four best runners-up will contest playoffs for a chance to reach the inter-confederation playoff stage.
Local-based players will depart on Sunday, joining their foreign counterparts in camp before heading to Gaborone for the Botswana clash.
